Streamlining Banyule Nillumbik Tech School’s social media strategy

Teaching the teachers: organic social, demystified

Banyule Nillumbik Tech School was grappling with the sustained effort organic social media really takes. The Garden's job was double-sided: build the strategy, and upskill the school's marketing team so the strategy would outlast us.

The challenge

Organic social is a slow burn demanding consistent posting and diverse content, static, carousel, reels, to keep appearing in feeds. The school’s team needed best-practice knowledge, misconceptions cleared away, and their social presence aligned with a strategic pillar: forging meaningful, enduring relationships that open doors for young people, schools, industry and community.

Our solution

A comprehensive strategy session with the marketing team covered competitor analysis, an audit of the existing social footprint, and immediate actionable fixes, from the Instagram bio to Facebook’s About section, plus crisis management guidance and channel-by-channel best practice. Channels got distinct jobs: Facebook for parents, schools and principals, Instagram for students, LinkedIn for industry connections.

Four content pillars set the foundation: Education, establishing the school’s authority through student stories; Entertainment, keeping content relatable and digestible; Diversity and Inclusion, signalling that everyone is welcome; and Community, showcasing the school’s ties around Greensborough. Before-and-after, the Instagram feed transformed from text-heavy and bio-less to clean, decluttered and full of personality.

The results

The school’s social media reach has grown markedly, and, just as importantly, its staff now run the accounts confidently themselves: an educated, sustainable approach rather than a dependency.

What our clients say

It was great working with the team from The Garden — they took the time to understand our needs, then worked through a range of options, and really held our hands through the process. Our social media reach has really grown as a result, and our staff are now highly skilled and really embracing the world of social media!
